Opening Night

Tonight, me and the rest of the current Second City BrownCo cast open our new show Barackolypse Now! We rehearsed three times a week for the past two months, previewed our material for the producers and re-worked everything over and again. Now, we’re ready to rock and roll for the next ten weeks!

I always hate the few minutes before a show leading up to the call for “places,” so you can imagine my impatience as I sit here with about six hours to go. I just want to get it done. Not in the sense that I’m “over” it and “let’s move on”…but it’s funny how this all works. Once the show opens, you’re pretty much in the clear. You’re enjoying the fruits of your labor while letting audiences get a piece of the pie. Yes, you still fine-tune stuff and fine new beats as you go but the hard part is over.

That’s what I’m glad about. The creative process for this show was a blast but you have to put in a lot of work if you want the best end-product possible. I had a bunch of other things going on (both professionally and personally), so I’m happy to be at this stage. Schedule opens up, focus shifts to other projects…all while your most recent hard work dangles on display for a brief period of time. In this case, it’s in Donny’s Skybox at Second City on Saturdays at 9PM (plug, plug!).

Let’s do this!
