A couple of months ago, I announced that I got hired by an improv comedy theatre out in the suburbs. Last night was finally my first night of performances at Laugh Out Loud and I had a blast! The venue is a nice size with floor seating and then a few rows on a raised platform. The stage, as you can see below, comes equip with curtains, various entrances and tons of props.

Each show consists of four performers and we basically run through a bunch of short-form games, with an all-audience show at 7:30 and an adult-only show at 9:30. The whole experience reminded me of my days at Just The Funny back home in Miami; a mostly non-improv savvy crowd (as they are a ways away from what the city has to offer) and just an overall FUN time playing games. Did some Four Square, 185, Three Things and my personal favorite: Rap Battle. My crowning achievement of the night was instantly coming up with this couplet based on the suggestion of “Narnia”:
Welcome pretty girl to my humble abode
I’m the Lion, you’re the Witch, let’s forget the Wardrobe
It was a nice change of pace from all the long-form stuff I’ve been doing at iO and the scene writing at Second City. I have my next show out there in a week and I’m looking forward to it! You can find out more info about LOL on their website, as well as see my handsome mug in the cast section:

(funny how quickly bios change over time, this one’s already outdated)
